The Mighty Mo
If you are on the Hoku Tours Call to Duty Tour the next stop after the USS Arizona Memorial is a visit to the Battleship Missouri Memorial.
The battleship is so full of history you can almost feel the days gone by. You need to devote a couple hours to looking around this magnificent ship. First off, take up the offer of the free tour. A very knowledgeable guide will take you through many of the significant spots on the ship and run through the history. Once you have completed the tour you are then free to walk about the ship and the exhibits throughout in your own time. As you move around the ship there will always be something to draw you further into this beauty.
On April 11, 1945 the USS Missouri was struck by a Japanese “Zeke” aircraft off Okinawa. Footprints on the deck mark the spot where the Japanese kamikaze pilot’s body was commended to the sea. Kamikze Story
Feel the history as you stand where Japan formally signed the surrender documents on September 2nd, 1945 and ended World War 2. The Surrender
The USS Oklahoma Memorial can be found at the entrance to the USS Missouri Memorial. Make sure you leave some time to pay your respects on your way out.
This is a tour you are not going to want to miss while in Oahu. Don’t forget to take a light jacket and a camera of course but again bags are not allowed with the exception of souvenir purchases.
